Our packaging uses the most innovative materials available to minimize impact on the environment. We use recyclable cardboard outer packaging made of 85% post-consumer waste and printed with soy-based inks. We do not use plastic shrink wrap. We use natural, biodegradable filter-paper tea bags rather than nylon or GMO-origin tea sachets. We are working with 30 mission-driven companies to launch the first home-compostable, plant-based, non-GMO material for overwrap and packaging.
We work directly with a small-scale bamboo supplier to source and manufacture some of our gift boxes. Bamboo is an organic, earth-friendly material known for its fast re-growth, high strength, and ease to work with; and it is one of the planet’s most untapped and renewable plant resources. Our bamboo packaging is hand-produced by a small group of handicraft workers, primarily women, who help support their families through this project.
For the past seven years, we have monitored and reported the carbon impact of our corporate office, employee business travel, and tea, spice and herbal materials shipments through Carbonfund.org. Since 2011, we have offset over 6 million pounds of CO2 equivalent through the purchase of third party verified carbon offsets supporting renewable energy projects in India and China.
The ECO-RESPONSIBILITY AUDIT is performed using the
Environmental Paper Network’s Paper Calculator and
reflects the waste reduced due to our sustainability efforts.
